Sunday in Santa Barbara

Sunday morning we ate in the hotel room before heading out on a few quick adventures.  We went to the court house tower and viewing deck.  I thought the kids would be more into it since you can see the mountains and beach but after a few minutes they were ready to go.  So we headed down the road a few miles to Mission Santa Barbara.  Same thing there, after a few minutes they were done.  The boys were having a particularly rough morning.  But we pressed on to State Street to grab David something to eat before his tattoo appointment.  He ate and the kids and I had ice cream at 11 in the morning for lunch!  After that we dropped David off and we were off just the 4 of us.  My plan was to take them to the Museum of Natural History but given how our morning was going I debated just going back to the hotel but Callie had been doing a nice job and I didn't want to punish her.  We got to the museum and the kids were instantly into the whale skeleton out front.  After we peeled ourselves away we went inside.  I was still nervous about heading in but we did.  And then the best news of the day came-military is free!  Woohoo!  Our day was going to turn around and it did!  We had the best time!  We saw everything there was to see there and the kids were so into it!  I mean we spent 4 hours there without once asking to leave or for a snack or complaining!  I mean I couldn't even believe it!  At one point the kids were excavating and just laid on a bench and relaxed for 20 minutes.  Since everyone was so awesome (and we got in free) we headed into the gift shop where everyone was able to pick out something.  We then picked up David and went out to dinner since he didn't cry like a little girl! ha!  The kids totally asked that as soon as he got in the car!  And thank goodness the boys excavated their dinosaur eggs from the gift shop in the hotel room-imagine that mess as home!
